Control Arm Bushings 200 1984

'84 245Ti...

Just ordered a "set" of control arm bushings from FCP Groton, with the knowledge from Bentley and BB discussions that the right and left rear bushings are not the same (for suspension tuning, weight, or whatever).

Just received the bushings and both are the same in a boxed set (Boge). Also, ipd catalog shows one part number and says "2 reqd," suggesting that the rh/lh sides are the same.

Have the specs changed? OK to install the "set"?

Thanks

Robert

Just curious since I'll be doing the same job soon. Did you get front control arm bushings also? Are the bushings themselves marked "Boge"?

This confusion has been around since 1990 that I know of.

Volvo lists two different numbers for Left and Right, but most aftermarket suppliers like ipd and RPR, plus some over-the-counter shops just sell two of the same, #1273711 (which crosses to Volvo 1359812, the Left one (presumably softer?).

FCP carries both a left and a right, when I searched on the Volvo numbers. And I'd say if you got two Boges with FCP # L2030-16800 for $11.68 each, you got two Rights, which is good.

They also show a "no name" Right (same #) for $8.44,
and a "no name" Left, L2030-17260 for $10.44.

I'm not crazy about the no name stuff anymore.

The part number is 1273711 for the pair I received. Left side of the car is heavier side?

No wonder there is confusion...

left side of the car would be heavier in a left hand drive car. plus, the crown in the road for water runoff makes a difference. just speculating, chuck.

Apparently FCP is selling the heavier driver's side bushings for both sides in their set. This should not be a problem. It isn't exactly what the system is tuned for, which is a slightly lighter passenger side bushing. So the feel might be a little assymetrical, but probably unnoticeably so. The real problem would be in using the weaker passenger side bushing in the driver's side, which would result in an early failure.

I guess FCP figures it's better to avoid people making that mistake than it is to get the correct bushing on the passenger side. In short, I wouldn't worry about having the same bushing for both sides. The real problem is that the Scantech bushings are not nearly as durable as the Volvo bushings.
