Front Brakes Question 900 1995

Just purchased front Mintex pads (FCP) and new metal shim plates(Dealer). The Mintex pads dont have the round notch for the plates to fit into.

1) Should I expect any braking noise without the shims?

2) Not that I can use the shims with these pads, but what would be the proper placement of these shims? The dealer supplied 2 in the package. Outer or inner pad? Or would I need to put one on each pad?

Any tips and feedback appreciated.

Thanks.

Front Brakes Question 900 1995

I went thru this already with my 95 940. The shims eventually slip and rub on the rotor...mine were eaten away and created a racket before I had time to replace them. I got the ones that have "built in" shims riveted to the back of the pad. I believe they were Textar, but not sure. Had no further problems.

good luck

Front Brakes Question 900 1995

The last 2 sets of front pads I used were Textar with the shims already built into the pad. They seem to be well made. Only problem is that I think they may be too harsh on the rotors and too much brake dust. I had to replace rotors twice after using the Textar's. I've been careful not to over-torque down the wheel nuts and am not very hard on my brakes. I switched to Mintex after hearing they're easier on the rotors and less dust.

My only problem now is that they make a real racket at low speed just before coming to a full stop. Maybe because the shims aren't perfectly flush with back of pad. Have to takes things apart again. Darn...

Thanks for your feedback.

Front Brakes Question 900 1995

All I know is that I just put on the same pads without shims, and the brakes groan a lot under moderate-hard braking from 50mph down. I did spray some anti-squeal on the back of the pads though. Guess that wasnt enough.

Front Brakes Question 900 1995

The shims actually fit quite well. I assumed that they wouldn't fit properly because the Mintex pads have a raised edge where where the shim is cutout for the rivet on the stock pad. Anyway, you know the old saying about when you assume.

Thanks for replying.
