alternator capacitor question. 200

hi there my 85 244 turbo has some bad wires. i started at the altenator and cut back the harness about one foot to repair wires. someone already re ran two wires. one for the oil pressure guage and one for the altenator, which was the small red one. when i pulled the altenator i noticed a black wire broken and not hooked up to nothing, it is not the ground it was piggybacking the big red wire. after studing the bentleys and haynes wiring diagram it looks like it should go to a capacitor, which i think is a little black box on the back of the alternator measuring 1 inch by 3/4 inch. i have no experience with this capacitor thing so i ask for advice it is a 100 volt alternator. i might have to replace the whole harness but first i will repair the obvious problems. thank you all.

Don`t worry about the missing capacitor it`s only for radio interference suppression. (and not always fitted)

Just remove or cut short the wire so it can`t short out to ground.

Hope you meant 100 AMP alternator, your bulbs won`t last long at 100 VOLTS !!!!

100 volts would be nice i could install some 500 watt halogens and put away my seeing glasses. 100 amps is more like it. thanks.
