I recently replaced the motor mounts in my 79 244 DL and I destroyed the metal tube that takes air from the exhaust manifold and goes up under the radiator somewhere (I just took a quick glance). I am guessing it has something to do with the EGR valve. I need to replace this tube, but I don't know what it does or what it is called. I am thinking for a quick fix I could just get some of that metalic tape and wrap it around it real tight and grab one at my local pick-n-pull. Just to be safe I am going to plan on replacing the entire tube. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

This also brings up another question for me...when I first started driving the volvo its EGR or EGX light was constantly on in the dash cluster. I never looked in to replacing it, but am very confident I am able to. Instead I just unplugged the wire to the light on the back of the cluster. What are the symptoms of a bad EGR valve? Does it only affect smog? or Does it affect the perfomance of the engine? I hope I didn't damage anything....Thanks again.

By connecting this hose properly you will introduce a chance for your AMM to be ruined. If the thermostat in your airbox is broken it fails in the pre-heat condition. Thus only letting hot air into the intake not cold. This will burn up your AMM and they run $300 new. If you want to reconnect your pre-heat hose just make sure the airbox flapper blocks the hot air side when the engine is warm.

k-jet has no AMM. You should still check if the thermostat closes
when it gets hot, because air straight off the exhaust manifold will
cause your car to ping when it is warm.

its called the pre-heat hose/tube. It goes under your radiator and connects to your air filter box. You can get a new length at most auto stores...but a junkyard one will cost about 1 buck and its already in shape. give that a try.
