Autotap OBD II 900

Has anyone had any experience with B&B's AutoTap system? How does it handle Volvo specific codes?

Thanks for any info!

All of the systems that I have investigated only read the "generic" US government mandated "P" codes. Only the Volvo factory scanner can read/interpret the "EFI-" codes or the tranmission ECU etc. If you already have a laptop computer or a PDA you can save some money by buying one of the smart cables and software set-up's to use with your laptop or PDA.

Supposedly the scanner listed in the FAQ can read Volvo specific codes... and well.. what about that FOSS project on SourceForge?

To the best of my knowlege, none of these will give out the Volvo codes. If you know of any I'm sure we would all like to know. It seems the 960, the only RWD with OBD-II is such a small market there is no comercial incentive to produce the software. Or, there isn't anyone in the RWD brickboard community that has the skill or time to develope the SW for our cars.

No, never herd of it, why not read your own codes from Volvo on board unit?

Hi Park, Could you explain to me how I can get the codes from my 97, 960 without a diagnostic scan tool. Thanks Pauli

You can't read the codes on any car 1996 or later without an OBD2 code reader. There are hand held units that sell for about $150.00, there is computer software and cables that will do it, you can go to Auto Zone and they will pull codes, no charge.

I purchased software and cable last year, very unhappy with it, wont clear codes, user unfriendly, minimal and confusing documentation.

I bought an interface box and downloaded the software from this site: http://obddiagnostics.com/ for about 88 bucks. If you have a laptop available, this is probably as cheap a solution as you will find. Will read generic codes and will reset the lamp if necessary. Not as full featured as some other programs, but for the price it beats the handheld scanners that only read out the codes. This unit will display diagnostic data as well.

Thanks for the info!

Will the unit you have display any of the Volvo specific codes? (ABS SRS etc)

Thanks!
