want to buy a 900 series wagon. What should I look out for? 900

Hi guys I am considering buying a 940 or 960 or perhaps even an 850 wagon.
I am a DIY maintenance guy and have owned a 1972 144 B20B for the last three years. In that time I have learned a lot cars in that time.

I am looking for the model that will give me the least amount of trouble at least financially maintenance wise.

Winter driving is not a concern as a cold winter's night here in Sydney, Australia is 50 degrees F.

Cheers,

Chris

It about 160km the cooling system should have been replaced (rad and hoses). I have a turbo and love the power but it does make repairs more complex, especially with respect to the manifolds. If you can find a 940 that has been well maintained you should have no surprises.
Look long and hard for a vehicle that has not been in a 'bump'.
good luck

If you want a very unique wagon consider the 91 940SE. It is essentially a 960 with the 940 turbo and AW71 transmission. I just aquired one to match my 91 940SE sedan, but then I am partial to this model.

Personally, I'd stick with the 940. The 960 is a wonderful car, but a bit more mechanically complicated. In my humble opinion, Volvo completely abandoned their commitment to durable, quality cars with the introduction of the 850. (and that lackluster attitude continues in the current line of Volvos.)

Go to the "700/900 FAQ" in the "Features" dropdown menu at the top of this page. Check out "Buying a Used 7xx/9xx" in the right column, near the bottom. Lots of great info to help you in your quest.

Good luck.
