... the leather and stuffing are really ratty. it seems that there must be vynal stuff avaviable that might be cheaper but just as durable. would like to solicit inputs from members of the forum who have had seats overhauled. any caveats or helpful tips.

Don't know if this helps, but for our 122 restoration, I took the seats completely apart and then took the bottoms and backs to a local auto upholstery shop. They had no trouble using the remnants of the old vinyl (or whatever that stuff is 122 seats were made of) to make patterns for new in the material of our choice. They also redid the stuffing so the seats feel just like new. Cost was $500 for front and rear seats including the armrest.

Yep, years ago, my wife and I did the same thing to a 1955 Ford sedan. However, the remnants of the seats are so tattered that using them for patterns is out of the question...
