I bought a used 1989 760 GLE Turbo and it only came with 1 key. I have been to the local Volvo dealer and he can't get me a key code from my VIN... I have talked to just about every locksmith in 50 mile radius with no results... Please help... Someone must have had something similar happen, how did you get keys?

I got 'em from my dealer, no sweat.
It took ~ 35 sec. for the computer to spit out the code(and all the other build info for the car).
What are you trying to get the locksmiths to do? They should, at least, be able to copy the key; if it's the "security" key, like my 765, look for a locksmith with "Mercedes" in his yellow pages ad.
Please, let us know who this service-challenged dealer is!!!

I have what is called a "Sidewinder Key".. It's some kind of security key Volvo used... I'm told the machine to make these keys costs a Locksmith $6,000, so of course, no one has one... When I went to the Volvo dealer ( Fran-Kral Volvo in Rockford, ILL) they punched the VIN in the computer and it came back all zeros...

Like I said, see "Mercedes", and find another dealer.

Although I do not have first hand knowledge, a former owner of our 1987 240 Volvo said that with the VIN number he had been able to order a new key from Volvo of America. Perhaps some of the other members might have more information as to whether this is a viable option. Would certainly agree on trying another dealer. Good luck and all best regards, Larry.
