Can my non-A/C 240 be fitted with a used A/C-system 200

I have a '89 volvo 240 GL stc. aut. Unfortunately it has no A/C and therefor I am wondering if it is possible to take the A/C-system of another volvo 240 and install it on my 240.

If it is possible, which year A/C-system should I look for (does it have to be a '89 model or can I use a '93 A/C-system)

What shall I look out for and be aware of ?

What can I do myself and what must I have a professional to do ?

Thank you in advance.

Malnitz

it depends on the blower motor and heater box. the non ac cars that were never gonna get ac are waaaay different behind the dash. all cars to the us were intended for ac, but not all got it until 86. if this is the type you have, then any takeout from any 240 86-up will work. get the comp, brackets, hoses, condensor, evap, everything. replace the compressor with new/rebuilt and be prepared top deal with leaks from the old hoses, it might happen. replace all the orings and the drier or accumlator-depending on the year and go.

your best bet is 1 from a 91-93. newest parts, less miles on it and 134 ready. good luck, chuck.

Thank you for the answer.

Is there an easy way of telling whether the blower motor and heater box are designed to A/C. ? In any case how can I tell the difference ?

BTW. my 240 is a European car (originally from Germany)

Thank you in advance.

find a car with ac and compare heater controls and boxes. pull the trims off both sides and the speaker grille off the dash and look everywhere. the only difference should be the ac hoses and switches on the other car. or, get the manuals for the heater and ac. everything is covered there, too. good luck, chuck.

If the control panel in your car looks like mine, I am "pretty sure" (FWIW) that your car is not designed for AC:
