'93 240 a/c question 200

when it works it holds a steady 40 degrees, but it dosn't work all of the time. When doing a lot of stop's where i shut off the engin, the a/c dosn't always start back up. Sometimes it dosn't come on at all but sometimes after driving for abot 10 minutes it just starts up and it is cold as all get out. Any sugestions.

    Problems could be:

The low side pressure switch, or a "flooby" connector on the low side pressure switch.

Loose ground wire on the compressor.

Disegrating power connector on the compressor.

I had something similar, would work sporadically, and the charge was good. It turned out to be that the AC pressure switch was bad. I think they are around $10 to $45 depending on if you go aftermarket or Volvo.

A simple check is to check the voltage from the connector at the pressure switch. If you have 12v, then it might be the switch. You can jumper the connector and it should cycle on. Warning - don't jump for more than about 10-15 seconds or you could damage the compressor.

    Good Luck,

    Tom
