94 940 Wagon Wheel bearing hub 900

I think my front-right wheel bearing require replacement. The wheel is making noise when I make right turns. I don't have a press machine. Is this something I can do myself? (I have experience changing wheel bearings in BMWS)

I read that two different wheel bearings are used for Volvos, anyone have idea as which one is used for 94 Volvo Wagon?

thanks in advance

If it actually turns out to be a failed bearing - forget the press as the bearing is available as a complete hub only. One part for ABS and another for non-ABS. They don't fail often so used is a good choice.

The older cone type bearings have not been used on the 700/900 cars since 1987. Tightening for the centre nut on 1988-95 sealed bearing is 75 ft/lbs PLUS 45°.

    Dear skim35,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. How many miles/Km on your car? Typically, wheel bearings do not need attention until 150K/250K miles/Km.

If a bearing is failing, the noise it makes - a whine or a howl - will be continuous. It will be louder at higher speeds.

If the noise is present, ONLY when you're turning, perhaps a brake caliper is loose - and brought into contact with the rotor by centrifugal force.

If it is indeed the bearing - and others more knowledgeable will surely comment - I believe that on 940s, the hub comes with the bearing factory-installed (it was so on a nephew's 1990 760). While this makes for a more costly repair part, it simplifies the replacement.

Sit tight: help - in the form of someone, who's done this repair - is on the way!

    Yours faithfully,

    spook
