95 940 AC intermittent warm air?? 900

its getting warm here in the florida panhandle and my ac usually blows nice and cold. Had the annual check performed last month with reputable local ac garage, added a few ounces of R134 and said it was fine.

Recently on a few occasions, in the heat of the day, it seems my AC quits blowing cold and reverts to outside air. the snowflake button stays depressed, the fuse doesn't blow, and the fan continues to run. So, i shut it off, stop the fan, cycle the temp dial and restart it..suddenly it is blowing icy cold again.

Any suggestions or advice??

If it generally fixes itself when you rehit the snowflake, the problem is usually in the control head. There is also a possibility of the low side pressure switch or the connector on the low side pressure switch. I'm also in the Panhandle...and have done many of these repairs...happy to direct.

I had a similar problem last year, and it turned out to be the fixed orifice valve. When the a/c system gets hot, the gas expands, and presure builds. The fixed valve standard to most volvos can't expand to accomodate the pressure, and limits the flow of refrigerant. By contrast the variable orifice valve can open and close to respond to the pressure and keep the temperature constant and reduce the chance of warm air blow. We had it replaced with a Nartron variable orifice valve, and it's been fine since. That's my 2 cents, fwiw. Good luck.

There is frequently a bad solder joint on the back of the control panel for this car. I believe that the instructions for re-soldering are in the 740/940 FAQ section.
