I just got a call from the shop that's working on vacuuming and filling my newly retrofitted 940. The mechanic wants to know where the high side is. He says he already spent an hour trying to find it and did not seem too happy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

the 960 is the same.it is charged by weight.after evacuation of course.

The best thing is to charge by weight with the cars that don't have a pressure-side port (later models)..

i'm concerend the shop called to tell you they didn't know the system. sounds like time for a new shop, too.

there is no high side port on the later cars, everything happens thru the low side and the factory tool can read the hi side from the live data. good luck, chuck.

I told the shop I didn't want them to touch the car since they didn't seem to know what they were doing.

This was after the technician told me that people like me make life difficult for them because we work on our cars and then expect them to finish the job. He thought I had left off the high pressure port when I did the retrofit.

i missed the retrofit part, you didn't post a year. the r12 cars have charge ports on the ac comp, a real pain to get to. but they should have 134 ports on them now. i imagine the only 134 port on it now is at the accumulator. always put the 134 ports on the r12 caps to avoid cross-contamination. good luck, chuck.

How about on my 93 with OBD-I? Or is it all done by knowing what to look for at the Low port?

that might be to early for ac pressures on the fact. tool. have to check, chuck.

The bad news is there ain't one. They used to put one on the high side on the line under the car on some earlier 700's, but my 93 did not have one. It's incredibly stupid. Since I had to replace the condenser, I had a shop put a fitting on the line for me. To make matters worse, the line is typically steel, not alluminum and it will be rusted solid to the condenser or worse the aluminum high pressure flex tube/line from the compressor. These guys don't know squat about HVAC.
