Just be thankful you're not doing the camshafts of a B27 in a 260! Seriously you will be turning alot of little bolts, some will break and some will come out with threads on them if they've corroded over time. I don't know what your climate is like but here in the USA our northern states use salt, calcium and other dreadful chemicals on the roads during the winter and this really wreaks havoc on alloy engines. If you're going to undertake this yourself just take your time, have a blowtorch handy along with a small hammer. Heating the area gently to almost hot to touch will expand the aluminum then tapping on the head of the bolt will knock the internal corrosion a little and giving you a chance at getting them out. This job however should NOT be done with the engine in the car as front clearance is already tight with the engine sitting so far forward.
I have no idea what possesed Volvo at the moment the V6 engines were put into production but it wasn't good! Dont get me wrong my kids 240 (265DL) wagon with his older B27/M46 goes like HELL with the performance cams however it was a nightmare on an engine stand during our post crash inspection.

Ever thought of ditching the V6 and going with a B23?

You betcha you do, and darn near everything else too. That is probably one of the top two most dreaded jobs to roll into the shop back in the day. If it is a B280 it will be just a little bit easier, even though they stuffed the distributor in the front and right in your way. Make sure that you really really need it done because it is one labor intensive nasty job to do.

I looked at this job once...and honestly, just didn't want to do it. If I remember correctly...you had to take apart ALOT. I can send you the book...I don't want it! That way I can have an excuse for saying, "No".

Try sending to both business and personal. Sometimes the spam filter keeps me from getting my mail at the shop. voltech@nettally.com; chrisjarvis62@msn.com

chicken. just 'cuz those 7mm bolts haven't been loose in 15+ years doesn't mean they ALWAYS break. when you tell the cust it's not like doing a belt on a b230, it's gonna be 7 hours or so, plus rust and corrosion tax, they get nervous. haven't done a v6 chain in 10 years-damn lucky. and so it goes, chuck.
