hard to start 200

I have a 264 that starts great on the first try, but when you turn it off it takes 3 times before it will start. I have replaced the fuel pump and it still does the same thing. Can anyone help.

sounds like a rest pressure problem. you need to get a pressure tester for kjet systems and use it. 3 pressure tests are needed, line, control and rest. get the bentley manual for SOME instruction, the v6's are not in there. or, get the factory manual for it and go from there. good luck, chuck.

There are three main components that maintain the residual (i.e., when the engine is turned off) fuel pressure. One or a combination of these components could need replacement, or you might have some problem in the lines (less likely). In the engine compartment there is the fuel pressure regulator (that roundish thing on the front of the fuel rail), and the fuel pump check valve. Also, the intank fuel pump has a check valve in it and if it's bad it can lead to hard starting. In order of probability, I would guess 1. intank pump 2. fuel pressure regulator 3. fuel pump check valve.

You don't say what year your brick is in the pulldown menu marked "ALL". You really should, because it makes a difference.

On a 264 add fuel accumulator to that list, but the problem could also be too much fuel, (cold start injector staying on, fuel distributor plenum stuck, frequency valve or frequency valve relay "freaking out"). As was said in previous posts, you're gonna need a book. Now this is going to be a little bit like playing "hot potato", but you could see if your plugs are fuel saturated after this 5 minute delay before attempting to restart, that way you can learn too little fuel? or too much fuel?
