Removed and cleaned the throttle body and IAC motor--now the Volvo starts vigorously always on the first crank, and the wife is no longer complaining. Two for one!

      You'll want to consult this post for a description of how the throttle body and IAC work, and go from there.

      I just removed the throttle body, removed the IAC, and sprayed some STP throttle body cleaner (bought at AutoZone) in there very liberally. Put it all back together, and voila, the car runs noticeably better. Hope that helps.
