How many mpg should I expect with my 87 non turbo 740? Highway/rd thanks

With my 88 744 TIC, I get between 21 and 23 MPG. Not bad considering I am pulling between 2 and 4 people and their 30 pound bookbags 34 miles a day through not generous driving conditions, I have a bit of a lead foot, and no reluctance to tap into the power of my turbo when needed.

While I don't have accurate data for my 780s yet (still working on them and not on the road just yet), the EPA numbers were 17 City and 20 Highway. However, driving the speed limit and driving with a light foot yeilds a lot of improvement. I'm also planning on swapping the Automatic AW-71 transmissions at some point for some AW-71L (lockup) trannys. (as donor parts become available through the local scrap yard)

FYI, I would also encourage the people who reply to this message to post the following information (helps evaluate the numbers a bit better for those of us who will read the info):
    1. City MPG.
    2. Highway MPG.
    3. Engine.
    4. Transmission.
    5. Sedan or Wagon.
    6. Your tire size.
    7. Stock tire size (as listed on the tire placard).

The reason that #5, #6, and #7 are on there is because I frequently see Volvos that have the wrong tire size on them. A smaller than stock tire will show better/higher MPGs when in fact they will be lower/worse but the tire size is throwing the data off (the odometer shows 100 miles traveled when it was actually 92 miles of distance, etc).

    God bless,
    Fitz Fitzgerald.

28 to 30 mpg highway with a manual
26 to 28 mpg highway with an automatic

Those figures are at 60 to 65 mph

The avarage fuel consumption of my 1990 745 with a B200F engine and an AW autobox is somewhere around 25mpg in town and 30mpg on a run. Not too bad!

My 87 745T automatic before I moded it for gas mileage got around 27 mpg on the highway with the cruise set at 65 mph. Now after fuel economy mods I have passed 32 mpg. Feel I can get another 1 to 1.5 mpg out of her. The original goal was for 35 mpg but doubt I'll ever get more than 33 - 33.5 mpg. Still searching for more MPG anyway I can get it. With a manual in a 744T I have gotten as high as 29 mpg. I do use a GPS to confirm the speedometer is matching my road speed and distance. After finishing up the mods schedualed for this weekend and the only thing I'll have left is weight reduction. And I figure I can get more off me than the car.
