Weber 38/38 120-130

How much better is the weber 38/38 compared to the 32/36 and will it work will in a moded b20?

In my neck of the woods (Scandinavia), the 36/36 DCD seems to be the prefered carb for moderately tuned B-engines. (When I picked up mine for my B230K, it came from a B18 in a PV. Need an intake?) Those that go beyond that, seem to favor DCOE's.

It'll definitely "work" if you jet it correctly for your motor (this also applies to the 32/36, of course). How much "better" the 38/38 would work I can't say -- the manifolds tend to be the limitation as much as the carbs.

I personally believe that the downdraft carb is a mistake on these engines since the air stalls in the plenum causing fuel to puddle. I have been far more satisfied with the SUs in daily driving and in fairly advanced race set-ups. Monster engines seem to like the side-draft weber/delorto/mikuni type units. The 32/36 is an "economy" downdraft (secondary only opens when you need extra power) The 36/36 or 38/38 are more WOT orientated as they operate "balanced" and provide maximum flow under all throttle conditions... still hampered by the two right angles the air has to make. Perhaps if someone came up with a manifold that optimized the air flow path for these?
The stock manifold for the "A" engine had a "hot spot" in the plenum under the carb that would keep the fuel atomized (but it was hot, duh).

Good luck,

Mike!

I agree absolutely. Sidedraft carbs are naturally better on inline engines because the charge doesn't have to go around a lot of bends and have the fuel fall out of it. That's why I said the manifolds tended to be more the limitation than the carbs. But he asked...
