They fall out of the cluster more often than the other lenses do.

Junkyard taillamp clusters are often missing the reverse lenses.

My theory is that UV penetrates the clear ones and kills the glue/weld bead on them before any of the others. Thus, there's an aftermarket for the clear ones.

Could be...but then why make it removeable in the first place?

(light bulb goes on over head)

I geddit. It's *because* the lenses are clear that they have to be made separately. All the other lenses are red, so the taillight lens can be molded as a single piece...except for the backup light part.

Actually all the lenses are made separately on these already, so.

And it's not a mold problem either ... even on earlier vehicles (like both my vintages), the clear lenses were molded with the colored, so.

Because for some reason the clear ones fall off significantly before the others. I am currently waiting for a day to re-attach my right rear lense...

It's because the glue didn't stick properly out the gate from Volvo.
