Replacing 240 Trunk Lid 200 1992

I'm about to replace the trunk lid on my '92 240. What if any special steps do you have to follow because of the pressure in the gas struts that hold the lid up?

TIA

DS

Does anyone know what the year interchangability is for the trunk lid?

240 Trunk Lid interchangability..... 200 1992

HI -

I asked that question of a body guy at Nils Sefeldt Volvo body shop. Answer was that the flat type will interchange with the "hump-out" type. Look at the curvature of the fender where it meets the trunk lid - it will line up. The locking system is different, but the latch itself should work OK.

Having owned cars of both types, I prefer the newer type. The electric lock and the valet key system are nice features. Plus, I think the newer type will close on slightly taller loads.

Regards,

Bob

They are cosmetically different--85 and earlier are flat, 86 and later the raised, curved "bustle"

I've been told they don't internchance--slightly different fit between trunk lid and body. Not sure is this is right--when I get a chance will find out.

I didn't remove the hinges just the hood. Upright position, blanket under to protect, remove bolts.

No special precautions. The gas struts are a unit assembly that you remove in tact. They will not behave badly.

Have a helper. As soon as you remove the fist strut, the lid will want to come down.......Watch your head. You will also need four hands to safely remove the trunk lid. It may not be to heavy for you alone, but it will be hard to handle.

Good luck,
Dan
