Early R/S gauge set in a post-86 240? Anybody tried it? 200

I realize the mechanical/electronic speedo would be an issue, but beyond that is this remotely feasible?

Having a Rallye Sport Cluster, I can say that the size and configuration of the speedometer is your main problem (as you've no doubt anticipated). If you have the newer electronic speedometers, you know that you cannot use an old mechanical (cable driven) speedometer, and it doesn't appear that the new electronic speedometer can be easily inserted into the Rallye Sport Cluster.

On the other hand, you would have to so much rewiring and customizing to use the Rallye Sport cluster (since it's directly compatible only up to a 1980 240), viz. wiring it, that you probably would be better off just buying a set of VDO gauges and fabricating your own new dashboard from scratch, one that uses your 240's newer electronic speedometer.

There is a guy who has modified Rallye Sport clusters for a later-than-'80 240, but it wasn't (I believer) as new as a '86-on type.

Good luck.

Nope it wasn't, it was for an '85 240T, and I also did one for an '84 for a friend of mine. I am planning to do an install in my '88 but I'll be replacing the gauges with VDO vision series. They make a speedo and tach that will fit the R-Sport holes. Wiring is the main issue, it took several hours with multimeter and test light to figure out the wiring for the earlier cars, haven't started working on the wiring for the later conversion. It's not a project for the faint hearted or wiring challenged. There is also an adapter that must be fashoned from aluminum stock or something similar.
Cheers
