Would a retarded timing lead to poor idle (or is it advanced timing...can't remember)?

the timing is not adjustable on your car, it's handled by the speed sensor on the flywheel. good luck, chuck.

Idle can be bad with either extremely advanced or retared timing. However on on your year I do not think there is any timing adjustment, it's completely under control of the ECU.

Poor idle can have many causes:
Bad plugs
Bad wires
Mixture off
Vacume leaks
Etc Etc

What do you mean by poor idle?
Missing?
Low idle speed
high idle speed
whatever else

Sounds like it's missing....I was going to investigate it today. Taking a closer look at the intake gaskets.
