245 Front end sounds a bit 'crashy'...any ideas? 200

For lack of a better term, my new '93 245's front end seems a bit crashy. When hitting moderate bumps in the road, it sounds like various items are loose. I'm sure that there are certain wear items on this car that one needs to look at. For instance, the original rear shocks were just removed and replaced. The old hydraulics were 100% shot. Nice change to have replaced them with KYB gas charged shocks. I suspect that the front McPhearson's need replacing, but I wonder too if the looseness might be related to some kind of tower bushing or some other item. Steering seems tight, just kind of loose when you hit a bump and only in the front. Any suggestions? Sure do thank you.

Sincerely,

J. Beechcraft

Depending on a few things.. you might want to check teh balljoints and tierods on each side. If those turn out to be OK... then look at the rear control arm bushing. It is the one that looks like a donut towards the back of the control arm. The metal sleeve inside of the has the tendency to rust to the pivot bolt on the control arm and will clunk like all hell.

I agree - sounds like the same symptoms mine had (91 242). Rear control arm center pin fell out as I removed the bushing. Clunked only on slow minor bumps - felt like it was right under my feet. A mechanic put in struts - rode smooth, same clunk. I put in a new bushing and the clunk disappeared.

Good luck!

David
