I have searched the faqs and have found some simular symptoms but I have other symptoms that are not addressed.
My '89 760 turbo was running great untill I came to a stop light and it died. Discovered blown fuel pump fuse, replaced it and the car started right up and ran for about 15 seconds then the fuse blew again.
I have pulled my dash out, cause I know I have melted ground wires coming from the radio connectors (I have no radio cause I guess someone ripped it out of the car before I owned it) and going to the fuse panel. Also I have melted ground wires going to the light switches.
I spliced in new wires as best I could with my limited wireing tools and skills and have performed some tests provided in the faqs.
First I bought two new fuel pumps, in tank and chassis, and installed them. I can't say I've ever heard my in tank pump and I could not get my old chassis pump to come on. After installing the pumps, and before hooking up all the instruments and gauges, I replaced the fuel pump fuse and tryed to start. No start and upon turning off the ignition the chassis pump stayed running untill I had to pull the ground off the battery. It would not come on for a short time when turning the key on like it is supposed to. I took the neg. wire off the chassis pump and turned on the key; trying to hear if the tank pump was running and heard nothing.
I bypassed the fuel pump/injector relay as explained in the faqs with the small piece of wire jumping terminals 30 and 87/2 and when I hook the neg. to the battery, the fuel pump fuse blows in just a few seconds without even turning the key. If I put the fuel pump relay back in and try to crank, I don't hear the chassis pump or the tank pump come on and the fuse blows after the engine turns over a few times. If I disconnect the ground on the chassis pump and turn over with the tank pump connected, the fuse blows. The tank pump fuse is not blowing.
I have checked the grounds and wires in the trunk comeing from the tank pump and they are not corroded and seem to be intact.
I have looked for corroded grounds and connectors all over as described in faqs and have not found any thing obvious.
The closest scenario I have found in the archives is a 960 with the same fuse blowing, but the thread concludes with probably a short and need to wiring diagram to 'pinpoint'.
Is there something I am missing. Any input would be appreciated...clifford
