Brushes / start motor 200

Since yesterday I have problems starting my 1989 240 dl. I discribed my problems to a friend and he said I need new brushes in the start motor.
Does anyone have experience with this and if so is it expensive to repair?
Thanks,
Lerby

I would recommend just getting a Bosch reman starter unit and stuffing it in. Those brushes last a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time so it they are worn out then what shape do you think the rest of the starter is in? To give you an idea the brushes in the alternator last 100,000+ miles easily and that alternator is spinning every second that the engine is running and you know how often you spin the starter. But to answer your question, no I do not have experience rebuilding a starter as that is something that is left to the rebuilder in this day and age and not the technician, as far as expense goes if you can get the brushes themselves individually they probably won't set you back more than 10.00 bucks or so and the rest is up to you, rebuilding it that is.

If you describe your problem in more detail, we might be able to
help you. What do you mean by "problems with starting?" Does the
car crank and not start, or does it refuse to crank? Your problem
might be as simple as a weak battery or poor connections somewhere.
