Turbodiesel Questions 700

Dear folks,

I've got 3 questions I can use help on, please. Car is a 1985 740GLE turbodiesel automatic with a broken ring gear on the torque converter.

1)Can one get new or used ring gears? I've done net searches, but no success past torque converters.

2) I'm thinking, if I'm considering doing the above, what about a manual swap? Would there be any major differences or considerations past those posted on the transmission section of the 700 FAQ section on the site?

3) Where is the exact location of the little square, black voltage control diode that runs the fuel and temp gauges in the dash?

Thanks for your time and help!

Yours,
Dennis Nichols

Turbodiesel Questions 700

The automatic flexplate is a little hard to find however, I do have a loose flexplate from a ZF automatic 760TD that Im not going to use. Contact me off the list via email and we can strike up a deal for it as I have a manual transmission 760GLE TD with no need for any automatic parts. Need a known good torque converter for the ZF tranny?

The 740/760 with the D24T was available with both automatic and 4-speed overdrive transmission. Both used a cable clutch and sachs made clutch assy. Mine uses the cable but has the provisions for hydraulic.

Voltage regulator is located on the rear of the cluster on the PC board. Its job is to regulate to an average of 5 volts I believe so the gauges have a somewhat accurate refrence to work with. Its either a silver or black colored module or a regulator transistor mounted to a small heat sink. Sorry I dont have any other specifics on the layout of the regulators for these.

Click on the picture to the right to get my email and send me a message. The 760GLE to the left is mine, 240 wagon is my sons

Good luck

1-try flex plate or automatic flywheel.

2-the 240s had manual trans available, but the clutch uses a cable. all the 700 manuals i've seen use hydraulics. don't think a slave cylinder would be easy to find. i've never seen a 740td with a manual trans.

3-sorry, don't know. good luck, chuck.
