third seat

Hi. I write after a year's hiatus from Volvo, having realized that it is time to "come home." The thing is, with a fourth child on the way, I can't do so unless I learn more about the third seat option. I reside in the United Kingdom and am wondering if fitting a third seat into any Volvo wagon/estate is a feasible and/or possible option. I have yet to buy the model, so if you tell me that it can go in one but not another, then I will look for the one it can fit into.

What are people's experiences of fitting the third seat? What kind of (ballpark) cost would be involved? Where does one find a seat?

I ask these questions assuming that I won't be able to find a car already equipped with one. If installing one is possible after the fact, then obviously my buying options increase substantially.

I look forward to hearing from someone, as I have always received extremely helpful advice from this forum in the past, and I so desperately want to get another Volvo.

Thanks in advance.

James Siemens

third seat

I fit a 3rd seat on a 240 wagon 5 years ago. I bought the seat off ebay. I don't exactly remember the cost, but I'm pretty sure it was <$150. After scrounging up various install instructions I discovered that I was missing some parts. The seller was very nice and was able to find them and send them to me. We went around a couple times that way. My seat had a worn armrest, which I was able to order from Swedish Engineering.

In summary, the install is possible. Your goal needs to be a safe installation. There are a few tricky aspects you need to be aware of on the 240 to assure a safe installation. I can send you my notes...email me offline if interested.
