Rear End Questions 200 1982

Couple questions about rear-ends.
First of all, were there any "posi-trac" rear-ends in 240s? I've always been curious about that, especially when it rains and the rear-end starts sliding.

Second, how different are the gears in the rear-ends of auto cars compared to stick shift cars? If i change my tranny from auto to stick without touching the rear-end, what will happen?

Thanks in advance for satisfying my curiousity!

Rear End Questions 200 1982

About a year ago I swapped my auto for a M 47 (5 sp.) on my 89, 245. The ratio's for the auto and manual are different. I never bothered to swap rear end on mine. First gear is quick, but short, second gear is a bit longer, third and fourth are nice. They all pull very strong. Fifth gear also pulls strong, even on hills. I've been getting 29-31 (highway) and 25-27 (town). I'm quite happy with the auto's rear end being pushed by the manual.

Yes, as mentioned, Bricks do have LSD available as an option. Two of mine have them, one doesn't.

Yes, some 240s did come with limited-slip differentials. I believe
that they were of the clutched type, not of the (better) worm-gear
Torsen type. 240s use a Dana 30 axle, which is the same as some
Jeeps use, so you have many choices as far as aftermarket replacement
differential units.
