tire psi... 700

hey everyone

just put new tire rim combo on the car (1987 765ti), columbia FWD volvo wheels 16 x 6.5 and 205/55 tires, with "GILL" spacers, just curious what psi should i be using, currently i put the reccommended 36 psi in the rear and 30 psi up front, but did not find the ride harsh, but did find hard and sluggish steering response. I figure i need more air, was just curious to see what other peiople are using with simialr wheel/tire combos.

also if it helps , i have ipd sways, bilstien HD's lowering springs, and i use the turbo + set up, and like to drive spirited

I agree with the two posts below, because you aren't dealing with stock handling or stock tires. Your tires have a shorter sidewall and in turn should use a higher tire pressure. Sounds like you want performance, well, increase that front pressure up a bit, and you'll get better steering response and more protection for the wheels. I usually run 36 all around on the street in my 142. Good luck, and you will enjoy your car with the new tires and correct pressures. Have fun! =D

I use 34-38 PSI on my 744 and 765, same pressure all around, depending on what I'm doing.
34-36 for freeway and around town, and 36-38 for "spirited"(or track) driving; 205-60-15 on the wagon(no track), 225-50-15(street or wet) or 205-50-15(track) on the sedan.
As they say, "Add pressure to whichever end looses traction first".

I have mine set at around town 34F and 36R. When I take a trip on the highway it's 36 all the way around. I have no wear problems with the 34 front pressure and I do like the steering response with 34 psi. I found the 30 psi to be too soft.

I agree. Except in rare circumstances, it's unnecessary and potentially dangerous to redesign the car. That's been done already.
