Did I Kill it? 200

Hello All,

This evening I took the Overdrive relay which I knew to work out of my '87 245 and put it into my '87 244 which lacks overdrive. It didnt fix the problem, however, created another.

I reinstalled the relay back into the 245, and now it doesnt have overdrive either.

What Happened?

How do I go about fixing it?

Thanks in Advance,

Rob K

Thanks, yeah the whole problem originated when I tried to solder the relay out of the 244. I was a little too liberal with the solder and ended up bridging connections... no good.

This time I'll be a little more careful.

Thanks

My guess would be a bad wire on the OD silinoid on the 244, most likely fried a connection in both relays, check the faq and a little searching should turn up all kinds of info on that.

The good news is that the relays can be resoldered, this sounds a LOT harder than it really is.

Having 2 86 245's my self I would highly recomend that you pick up a good assortment of wire and conectors..and a good soldiering gun, you will most likely be needing them. Don't get me wrong I love em all but you will have wiring issues.

Those relays have solder joints that are notorious for failing. You may have knocked it enough to crack some solder. You can snap off the cover and find a small circuit board inside. If you remelt the solder connections that may fix your problem. This may be the original problem with the 244 as well.
Good Luck,
