head gasket - worth the grief?

I have an 87 240, 245K miles, generally in very good shape. However the head gasket blew yesterday... If I decide to repair it (as opposed to selling or parting it out) how difficult will it be? Any special tools required?

I have (or have access to) decent basic tools. My skill level is intermediate - I have assisted friends with major work and done some minor work on my own.
