In oregon, it would still fail in az but I won't complain. Changed out the cat and it totally cleaned everything up. They don't check the fuel tank up here so I have some time to figure it out before I have to do it again in az.

Same happened to me. My 1988 245 was failing NOx miserably, while CO and HC were very low. Tried several things in attempt to lower combustion temps. Nothing worked, although NOx did lower quite a bit.

A new $72 cat from AutoZone cleared it right up! What a relief...
