LH-Jetronic Question

MY 89 740GL takes a little longer to start. I believe its a leak down at the injectors. Any good diagnostic test I can perform to troubleshoot?

In the last week I replaced:
-FPR
-Starter
-plugs/cap/rotor
-oil/filter
-main fuel pump/filter
-rpm sensor

Thanks,
-Bob

Did you re-use the check valve at the fuel pump? If so, it might be leaking and causing the pro-longed start.

      LH-Jetronic Question

Actually I purchased an aftermarket pump (Master ) that included the check valve and had the same results. I tested the Bosch one I replaced and it ran fine (I know I should have tested it first) anyway I put the Bosch back in with the original check valve. Maybe I should just buy a new one ($12.00) but why didn't the other one work? I'm gonna get a guage and test the pressure. Maybe there is a restriction in the line and pressure is alittle low.

Well the injectors and rail pop right out of that thing, you could always pull the rail complete and physically see if they are leaking down. You could simply connect a fuel pressure guage and watch for leak down.

      LH-Jetronic Question

Yeah I'm buying a guage at Pep boys on the way home. Once the car starts, it runs great. I replaced the FPR when I noticed high pressure fuel coming out of the open spark plug port (i was testing for a spark) also the vacuum end of the FPR had fuel in it, so I assumed a ruptured diaphram.

Testing for spark with fuel coming out of the open spark plug hole, hmmmm sounds like a recipe for a wiener roast for sure.

          LH-Jetronic Question

HAHAHA - Spraying out, dude, like a garden hose. No the Lord was by my side that night. The FPR was bad so when I replaced it I didn't seat it properly so when I started the engine gas was spraying all over the place. Well the ignition wires and dist caught fire, luckily I had my trusty garden hose in hand and put it out. Just the wires and cap had to be replaced, I was lucky (and stupid).

I have a million other stupid things I've done with cars.
