Wow! What happen to my turbo... help 200 1983

Hi,
Tonight I experienced a new sensation with my brick. I feel a wild response of my turbo, and I feeld very well. But this response for my was not normal, and I see the turbo meter, and goes to red!!! jumping to yellow to the first red section...
Now, my question is: Why? It is bad for my motor? how to fix this problem?

Any advice, thank U so much!!!

Edwin

No detonation no problems.... just listen carefully for pings. Sounds like a malfunctioning wastegate actuator to me. Check the hose to the wastegate, replace it regardless of condition, as it is very important to the well being of your motor. The diaphragm inside actuator may be ripped. Test it with a bike airpump by connecting pressure to the wastegate rod actuator. If it moves, you're in business, it was the hose, and if not, replace the wastegate actuator.

Yes! it's bad, running that much boost will put you in left field with air to fuel ratio, end result most likely melted pistons. You waste gate valve on your turbo is not functing properly to control max boost psi.
