1) oil light on 2) bleeding ABS brakes 700 1990

Just bought a '90 745 turbo. Engine seems fine, records indicated regular oil changes. After driving on freeway for about 20 minutes at 70mph, the oil light comes on. Oil is barely under full and is clean. Previous owner stated it never came on. I'm HOPING! it's only the sending unit. Should I just replace the sending unit? I've done that on my 240 & it was only $5-10.
2) I need to do the brakes, which I have done many times on my 240's. I now use a bleeder attached to a spare tire and the fluid reservoir. Any thing different for the ABS on this car?
Thanks, Gary

Only two things cause the oil light to illumnate: Low oil pressure (not level, unless the level is so low that you've lost oil pressure) or an electrical problem (sender or wiring). If you drove the car for any period of time with the light on and did not kill the motor, I'd suspect the sensor or wiring.

Before you start the brake job, suck all the old fluid out of the reservoir and fill with clean fluid.

When doing brakes on an ABS car, open each bleeder and clamp the rubber flex hose prior to retracting the caliper piston(s) as you do each wheel. This allows the old, dirty fluid to exit the caliper through the bleeder. The last thing you want to do is push the old, dirty brake fluid from the calipers back into the ABS servo/pump. In the last year, I've replaced 3 ABS servos just after the owner got a 'quality' brake job (not from me).

Also, when you pressure bleed the system on an ABS car, you'll need to let about twice or three times as much fluid out of each caliper as you would on a non-ABS model. There is simply more plumbing.

Hope this helps...Mark
