Gas problems in Louisville 900

There have been literaly 1,000's of cars here losing readings from the gas gauge causing many motorists to run out of gas.
The supplier blames it on high sulfer content eating the coils away on the in-tank gauge.I can only imagine what it's done to the rest of the fuel system.
The company is repairing these damaged cars but only after jumping thru some hoops and proving you purchased their gas.
I'm fortunate it hasn't to me and now there's a shortage of replacement parts and the company will only pay for one days rental for a car.
Is this happening anywhere else?At least the supplier is taking responsability.

At least you can have the consolation that you don't live in California. In a year or so we can expect to have a bunch of ethanol in our gas to eat our fuel systems.

I dont know who supplies Marathon and Speedway but that's where the majority of the gauge eating gas came from.I live outside the county so we dont get the Louisville formulated gas.The stations that were affected emptied their tanks and refilled.
The problem didn't come to light until A.A.A. anounced that they were taking many more calls for people out of gas and the gauge showing fuel in the tank.
It still took the supplier a couple of weeks to take responsability and their stance is high sulfer in the gas. That's their answer and their sticking to it.If it was sabatage someone was very busy doing their evil deed.
It was a city wide problem, not isolated to one area.

This story made it to Car Talk this morning. The caller wanted to know whether she should accept the guage replacement or that it was possible that other fuel line components, including the catalytic converter might ultimately be affected. Ray and Tom told her to hold out for a better offer, or the class action lawsuit that would surely follow.

Wow, that's just crazy.

The worst that's happened around here was that someone was selling 87 octane as premium at his two stations. Of course California gas is also supposed to have the lowest sulfur content of gasoline in the USA.

It would be interesting to see if any of the people with fuel gauge problems are also BMW owners (specifically with the Nikasil lined V8s). BMW ran into lots of problems with those engines because of high sulfur content in USA gasoline.

Sounds more like someone sabotaged the gas. It would take more that just a little sulfur to cause that. More like real sulfuric acid was poured into the supply.

I hate to think what has happened to fuel injectors and cylinder walls as a result!
