Hi, I'm sure you have seen this question before and I have found some similar in the archives but,
I have a 1979 245 wagon standard transmission car that has been in the family since new. The car really bucks and learches when trying to take off in first gear and will do it in any forward gear under the right load. Odly enough it doesn't want to do this when in reverse??? I replaced the in-tank pump and hose last year when it first started doing this and it seemed to help a little but has gotten much worse lately. The in tank pump is still running and it has recvd a new fuel filter. The main pump is getting really growly and it never was before last year.
One thing I did notice yesterday while trying another fuel filter is that I did not get any fuel spraying out when I loosened the filter fittings (Right after it had been running) and I'm sure it used to in the past.
Can the main pumps pressure deteriorate over time? I know this is the original pump and the car has 345K on it now. It runs great under light loads and will take off from stop lights with major cluth slipping. The ignition system checked out fine and I have pretty much ruled out anything electrical. I have also unhooked the return line and am getting a good flow back to the tank.
Has anyone had to replace the fuel acumulator before and if so what were the symptoms before it needed it and does anyone have any good ideas what this might be before I sink more money into it than the car is worth????
Thanks
