Air Mass Meter Rebuild? 200 1988

Hi all,
I have a failed AMM and I'm wondering if it can be rebuilt by me or and electrical shop. I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron and a meter, but not sure what to look for as far as damage. Thanks in advance.

Alot of folks have had bad luck ( myself included) with the rebuilt AMMs.
It's worth the money to get a new one, or if not, find a known good used one.

I just posted a similar question. This is what I know: AMM's can appear functional when tested with a multi-meter but still be defective due to testing proceedures that we're just not able to do, due to a lack of sufficient dedicated testing equipment. If you have isolated your problem to a faulty AMM, check out this site http://www.programainc.com

I posted to see if anyone else had used them. They can rebuild an AMM for $118.00 with 48 hrs turn around time with a 3 yr warranty. This is good insurance and makes more sense than buying an uninsured used unit for $50-80.00. Hope this helps.

I think the used units, once the hot air intake is disabled, give better service than the rebuilts in terms of longevity. That is what my experience as well as the experience of a lot of others has taught us.

That sounds like the ticket to me. I cannot image you could fix it yourself without special equipment since they have special wire elements in them and then the unit has to be clibrated.

Gary - You could always get a proven used one and keep a spare in your traveling parts stock. I've got two extras, both working, and both well maintained reasonably low milage 244s. I'll trade you one of em for some parts I need (various trim pieces, a decent glove box - door can be crap, a good working post '91 radio - TD-613 - or something along those lines)!

Good luck whatever you decide!
