Intermittent Speedometer - any clues?? 700

Hiya

I got a 86 model 740 estate with stick shift (2.3 GL)and the speedo works sometimes and sometimes not, I think it is electronic.

How can I fix it?

Any help much appreciated.

If both the odometer and speedometer quit together then I would investigate the sensor/wiring at the differential.
