Looking for some Ideas (inexpensive) to boost power outputon the Bertone
Any input would be appreciated
Jeff
Also, any idea what a pair of euro Cibie head lights would be worth?

I agree with RICHINK. The best route for more horsepower in the 262C Bertone would be to do a 4CYL Turbo Swap or the V8 Conversion. You should be able to find a 4CYL Turbo for a decent price. I plan on doing this same conversion to my 79 262C Bertone when I have more time. Below is a couple of pictures of a B230FT conversion into a 80 262C Bertone. Right now my 79 262C has 160K on the factory B27F engine. Goes to show that if these engine are treated right they still last a long time. Good Luck!

sounds like the turbo 4 could be the way to go. I also want to trim as much weight as I can, the car just feels heavy(keeping the power windows of course).
any other ideas>?
Jeff

The 262C's are just like any 200 Series but with a shorter top so you already have a little less weight there. To free up some more weight I would do a BW55(AT)-M46(MT) Tranny Swap. I did this exact swap on my 79 264GL and it came out GREAT. I love having the 4-Speed + OD and I love the smooth feeling of the HYDRAULIC CLUTCH. The engine also benefits from the swap because of the OD gear ratio of 0.79:1 rather than the AT 3-gear ratio of 1:1. I have seen an improvement of 3MPG+ after the swap and the car is a bit lighter and A LOT MORE FUN TO DRIVE. When I have more time to do the 4CYL Turbo Conversion into the 262C I will make sure to also bring a MT with it. Although the 240 MT were not hydraulic I will see if it is possible to use the bell housing/tranny of an early 700 series that has the hydraulic clutch because after having a hydraulic clutch I would never go back to a cable clutch. Good Luck!

Hello,

Okay, so a 262C, I am assuming you still have the PRV-V6 engine in there. Due to the fragility of the cam lubrication system on that engine, not much has really been dedicated to making those ones go much faster. You can probably get a generic high output ignition system, a K&N filtercharger kit, do a low-restriction exhaust on the car but all of these would only offer marginal (almost unnoticeable) performance imporvements.

To really get something earth shattering out of that car, the best way would be to drop in a 4-cyl turbo motor and start playing with boost.

Others may have better suggestions....
