    Chris,

I live outside of Portland, and work in town on Congress Street. Where are you located?

There is a place out on Route 302 in Windham called Jimino's Motor Company 892-2428. A Volvo friend of mine (who is very mechanically inclined) highly recommends these guys. They are a Volvo/Saab indie. I do all the mechanical work on my cars. But if there was something that I feel is beyond my capabilities -- or something I don't have time for -- I'll be taking it to Jimino's.

My only experience with Alan Auto was when a friend had some body work done there on his BMW. I think they do good work, but the price for the body work was high. I would expect the mechanical work would be more competitively priced judging by the caliber of cars that I see parked there.

What problem(s) are you experiencing? Contact me via e-mail -- maybe I can help you out.

thanks for all the great places. the 94 turbo 940 has an little problem, when the engine is warm sometimes after driving when i come to a stop it will idle rough about 500rpm then die. other times it drops down to 900rpm and idles perfect. someone said it is the throtle position sensor, and come to think of it i had almost the same symptoms in my old 89 740gle, it was the TPS. now my 760 td is in need of a new vacuume pump, its making a knocking noise that comes and goes. i want to try a pump off of an audi diesel. a friend in NEW YORK has a bunch, he said i can have a pump if i wanted. but if not its goin to have to be rebuilt before i loose brakes and whatever else uses vacuume.

      thanks for your responses.
      chris

thank you so very much for the responses, i will check it out tomorrow. does anybody have first hand experience with this shop (Alan auto) how are the prices, its real hard to find someone who knows the vw/audi diesels that were installed in the volvos. someone who can fix it without throwing $$$ at it and hoping the problem goes away.

thanks very much, hopefully this shop will keep another volvo roaming the streets for a good long time.

    regards Chris S

      Dear Chris,

Good a.m. Glad to help. I'm puzzled. Your first post referred to a 1994 940 turbo. Your follow-up referred to diesels. Volvo made some cars with diesel engines, but in the 1980s, I believe.

If you have another Volvo, with a diesel engine, you might want to seek advice on getting it serviced, on the 200 or 700 Forum.

So far as I know, Volvo didn't put a diesel engine into a 900 series car, at least not those sold in the US.

      Yours faithfully,

      spook

One of the sbricks posters, Tom Bryant, is a big Volvo diesel (D24T specifically) fan. I believe he will work on them for money, to what extent I'm not sure. He has offered million mile warranties (against oil related failures if you run Mobil 1) on his rebuilds in the past. He's up in New England somewhere.. I think Maine.

Also an sbricks poster, but from way back, Lee Holman. She left the list to start Amazon Acres (a shop dedicated to working on the 122/123/Amazon/etc). 940s might be a bit too new for her, but she does know her way around 240s and older bricks. She's located in Maine somewhere. Check out:

    Hi Chris,

I drove through Portland about a month ago on my way back to NS. I had to stop when I noticed a parking lot FULL of 200s/700s/900s. The place was closed, I got the name of the shop and it's number, but I just looked and can't find it :( I believe the shop was called "Alan Auto" and they had a 1-800 # as well as a local number and they were open Monday-Thursday. I wish they had have been open when I was there! There were RWD Volvos everywhere! I hope you'll be able to find them and if you do, I hope they can help! Good luck! I'll post if I find the number.......

        Hi spook,

That must be it. Looked like an awesome RWD Volvo place! There were 200/700/900s everywhere! I went nuts! Dad thought I was crazy, lol :) Too bad they weren't open when I was there. I wonder if they're any good.....I figured they must be with a lot packed full of Volvos. I think they had ONE 855, the rest were RWDs.....
