fuel pump 200

my 82 240 fuel pump is making a lot of noise. the car is hard to start in the mourning but starts fine when its warm but after the car warms up in about 20 min the main fuel pump under the rear seat gets loud and the car cuts off, i checked the in tank pump by opening the fuel filler cap and listen for the wirrling sound . it was making the sound.what can the problem be

assuming the in tank prepump is fine, then perhaps your main pump is dieing?

THe intank prepump is pretty much for aiding the main pump when the gas tank is low..does your car have this problem when the tank is full? If it's only when the gas is below about quarter full then it's the prepump, if not....it could be your main pump going, but it could be other issues
