92 240 nocrank, nostart, no nothing 200

92 has been running fine, know will not crank or turn over. I could not find the in-line fuse on the fender like my 87 had. Battery is new, but all I hear is a duoble click from the ABS area under the hood and a click at the fuel pump relay and a short weir. When I try to restart there is no fuel pump click or pump weir. Any body have any ideas? Thanks!

Thanks all for your input. As it turns out it was the park/neutral switch. I took the shifter cover off and noticed the stub was out of the plastic pizza shaped track. I pushed it back in and it started. I still think I lucked out even though it took me all day to find. Actually it was the brickboard archives that pointed me in that direction. Again thanks for responding, father of five needs all the help he can get to get Dads old car going.

i saw somthing similar to this happen, after the person payed to have the starter rebuilt, the vehicle was towed to our shop, the first thing the bright mechanic did was put a large wrench to the front flywheel bolt and as you can imagin, the engin had become one relitively solid peice of steel,, hope this is not your problem, ide be shocked to hear of a volvo doing this. / mike

Assuming an automatic transmission, try wiggling the shifter or moving it to N instead of P.

If that does nothing, I would try cleaning (wire brush or scraping) both ends of both battery cables. I know you have a new battery, but has anyone cleaned the terminals?

Disconnect the battery Negative cable first (for safety), then check and clean the Positive cable terminal at the battery and at the starter. Same for the Negative cable—do the battery end and both grounds.

OK, either the connection(s) to the starter/solenoid are bad and not allowing sufficient current or the starter itself is kaput. The clicking and whirring are normal start-up noises. If you wait a bit the whirring will happen again as the fuel pressure in the line drops off. If the key is on for some period of time with no start the relay kicks off the pump too (it assumes an accident).

Mike!
