Car = 1991 745 Turbo, stock B230FT

Most important is: Why does the water pump have a double sheave pulley (nicely lined up with two sheaves on the harmonic balancer) on it and yet only has one belt driving it? Or is it supposed to have two belts?

The rotary engine in the RX-7 has a double sheave water pump pulley and uses two belts to drive the water pump. It is cheap insurance against a single broken belt destroying an engine.

Has anyone put two belts on the water pump?

Second question: The water pump/power steering belt is the shorter (1000mm) of the two narrow belts (11.9mm width), right? The alternator belt is 1013 mm, right?

Finally: The A/C belt is the wide one, 12.5mm, right? The one that is on there now is a Continental and is 13mm wide.

    the pulley is used on the 240's, also. they use 2 belts. if you want to double the length of the ps belt so it wraps the water pump also, do it. i don't see a benefit. volvo 240s and mazda rotaries had different design engines. the rotary cooling system is more fragile and your reasoning makes sense. when i was in mazda parts, nobody asked or mentioned why 2 belts. good luck, chuck.

      i actually just doubled the PS belt so that if the belt breaks and im not paying attention i know when the wheel all the sudden is hard to turn ill be overheating shortly if i dont get off the road.

    I agree...use the 1000 on the ps. Some clown just sold my BIL the 1013 belt for his ps and it bottoms the adjustment screw. OTOH, it IS quite a bit easier to install!!!

    Too bad there isn't a 1005mm belt available!!!!

    My 780 V6 has two(2) water pump belts. Yours should also have two.
