Front door speakers for 242: What are the highest quality that will actually fit.

Hi there,

I have an 82 242 with manual (crank) windows and door panels that have the standard non-flat suface found in the DLs--- that I would like to install new speakers in.

I am interested in installing very good to excellent quality speakers (4") that will actually fit the stock location -- even if they will require adapters. I would like to use something like a Boston Acoustics, Diamond, mb quart, or other speaker of this quality in this spot. (I'll be using an Alpine head and new heavier wiring). If you have had some success in installing good quality speakers in this spot on a manual crank 240's can I get you to comment? Advice on speakers that are presently available is what is needed.

Thanks.

Dave

I bought some Pyle 2-way 120-watt speakers that fit perfectly into my 240 doors. I don't know how Pyle ranks with the top-of-the-line speakers, but judging from the $20 price I paid for them, they probably aren't up there too high.

I also bought an adaptor on eBay that attaches to the speaker and fits into the mounting pegs on the car's door.

Unfortunately I'm running a Volvo stock 20-watt stereo so I'm not driving the speakers to their capacity, but they sound a lot better than the stock speakers!

Dave,

I've had really good luck mounting Boston Acoustic CX 4 ... 4" two way speakers in several of my 240 Bricks front doors. I found hack sawing the original speaker out of the square grill plate , leaves a hole large enough for the CX4 to mount over it and provides a nice flat plate the stock grill snaps on to just like the factory/stock set up. The CX4 is a nice sounding, quality speaker that fits with no clearance problems. If you install BA 6x9 three ways in the back shelf ... combined with a good ... BBE sound processing 50x4 watt Alpine head ... you'll have a very nice, very clean Brick stereo indeed. Hope this is helpful to you.
