How to pull an AC pulley and clutch 700

Well, I am finally getting around to fixing my AC (the convincing factor being Southern california sun) and I know that all I need to do is replace the clutch and the pulley and bearing. I have heard that I take off one nut, then a snap ring, and then use some special tool to pull everything off. Do I actually need a special tool or will a gear puller do? Any procedural suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eamon

Sometimes the clutch pulley will just slide off the hub after you remove the snap ring. You can rent the little puller at Autozone for free.

you need the tool, a gear puller will screw up the belt grooves. the puller pushes against the crank of the compressor. are you sure you can get a new clutch? if the compressor has been replaced, some of the non-oe replacements do not have replaceable clutches available. good luck, chuck.

Erie Volvo has replacement used compressors for 125.00 that that they guarantee. I think they are complete with clutch.
