The flashing arrow came on with the flashing W & S so i'm wondering what is the difference between a mode selector switch and a PNP switch? 96 volvo 960 with 130K

The one on our 98 S90 went out at 67,000, the one on our 95 960 went out at 150,000.

Get in the habit of using "L "on the transmission selector once in a while. This should prolong the life of the PNP. It keeps the contacts clean and moves the grease around. I disassembled the two I recently replaced and determined that inactivity in the "L" range, along with heat contribute to the early failure of the PNP sensors on these cars.

I have had the flashing arrow a few times over the life of the car. When that happens I shut it off and row the gear selector back and forth about 30 or more times to wipe the contacts. So far it is still working. Yeah, I could get the switch and get under there and fix it, but I guess I'm LAZY...
