Sunroof has trouble closing all the way. 󞩳 760 Turbo] 700 1987

I have a 1987 760 turbo and my sunroof problem is a such

I can retract the roof back all the way no problem, and i can bring it back forwards all the way, up until the very end. There is a little spring loaded metal flap at the fron of the sunroof that the motor doesnt seem to be able to overcome. If i help the motor from the inside when i'm closing it I can get the roof to close fine.

Secondly, when i move the rof up into the vent position, I can only bring it down as far as the seal. the seal doesnt seem to be able clear the rear edge at all. I just dont open it that way because it's difficult to close.

Any ideas on why the problems are? Is the motor just getting tired? For the vent position I suspect that the fact that my seal is really old is the problem, but i'm not sure, as for the front edge, i'm completely stuck.

Thanks!

When my sunroof started catching the wind flap, I pushed down in the middle and bent the outside of it up just a bit and this pulled the center down about 1/2" even when the flap was up, allowng the sunroof to close.

I had nearly the same problem with my 940. What happened was the two levers/springs on the sides of the metal wind flap up front got bent and it wouldn't close unless either I held them down or pushed the roof myself.
After fooling around with springs I ended up just removing the wind flap altogether. I didn't notice any difference but my occasional back seat riders did. Hence the cats nickname of "Wind Tunnel" for my car.

I just corrected this problem on my car. It started after I had a board or something sticking out the sunroof that bent things a bit. YOu can probably get your roof to close now by pushing up on it as it closes or holding the flap down.

I took my sunroof off (the volvo green manual is very affordable and has excellent pictures on this) hoping to use the adjusting screws to reposition my roof but it didn't give enough adjustment. I had to bend two arms at the front of the roof to correct the alignment. These are not the black arms attached to the "wind flap" you can see them with the roof off. Anyway, by pushing up on the front corners of the roof with a reasonable amount of force, the arms should bend back to the right position. I would not have attempted this but after I took it apart it looked safe to do and fixed things for me.

Has this problem developed over time, or is this car new to you?

I had a motor go, then two used ones did not do the job. For $15 I got a manual crank set-up at the junk yard.

Reliable and fast!

Had the same problem with mine. I changed the motor and it didn't help. After I cleaned the switch, it worked fine. Guess it was dirty enough to keep the power from getting where it needed to go. Bob

I noticed something odd the other day.
When i hit 110 km/h the sunroof closes fine. if i'm sitting parked and rev the engine to about 3000 rpm, it doesn't.
Does that provide any more insight?

I have yet to try the switch, have yet to have a night off! :)
