My friends 1990 240 Wagon has the following issues:
1. fuse for radio blows
2. door chime won't stop
3. door lock out
4. tail light pnel burned
5. overdrive light stays on

She took it to a local auto electric shop and they installed a new wiring harness for the tail gate. She left and on her way home it started up again. What is going on? Please help.

If the shop only installed a new harness on one side of the tailgate, the other side is probably bad. My 91 blew the radio fuse a few times because of a shorted tailgate harness.

As for the overdrive light, if it's on, it means the overdrive isn't. It's probably a bad relay. You can replace it with a new one, or resolder the old one.

"Tail light pnel burned". Do you mean a taillight lens is melted, or something else?

"Door lock out". Is the central locking not working, or something else?

240 wagons don't have a circuit board on the taillights. They have individual contacts pressed into the back of the lamp housings.

My 86 240 wagon has that plastic film circuit. I think a 90 would also.

My former 87 and 91 wagons both have the terminals pressed into the plastic in the back of the housing. The used replacement taillights I bought for my 91 (from an 83) both do as well. All 3 sets were factory lights, not aftermarket. Although I've only run across a dozen or so late wagons in my recent junkyard searches, none of them had a circuit film on the taillights.

That's one of the things I've really liked about my wagons, in comparison to the sedans. I hate the thought of those stupid printed circuits.
