'92 960 Intrument cluster interchangability? 900 1992

I've isolated the problem with my intermittent speedometer to the instrument cluster. I've seen a few clusters on e-bay from a '94 or '95 960, but the pictures only show the front of the clusters. The clock on these later clusters seem to have a stem to set it, while my '92 has buttons below the intrument cluster for setting the clock. Anyone out there tried substituting a later instrument cluster into a '92, or is that the only year that will work?

thanks,
Ben

Just an update...
I bought a cluster from a 1993 960 on e-bay. The connectors on the back were all the same except it didn't have a place for the clock setting wiring (The later models have a simple stem system for setting the clock). Although the connectors were all the same, evidently the wiring for the fuel guage is different. I had to remove the little capacitor from the flex PC board and solder it into the new '93 board, and switch out the fuel guages. After doing all that everything seems to work fine now. I bought this car for only $200 because it was supposed to have a bad transmission, when in fact it just had a bad speedometer head that was causing transmission malfunctions. Now I have a nice driving car with good airconditioning and I've only got about $400 in it!

Ben

Isn't it great what people throw out because it doesn't work. I have 8 960's all that have cost less than a thousand dollars total to fix each, and they run great.
